Why the Washington Commanders Will Win the Super Bowl This Season

Washington Commanders

After decades of fielding a near NFL-caliber roster aside from quarterback, the Washington Commanders have stumbled into their franchise savior with Sam Howell. He joins Ron Rivera, one of the best coaches in the league, finally operating under an ownership group that gives a damn about winning instead of rimming (well, maybe not Magic Johnson, but he’s Magic).

So far, we’ve seen the expected bumps and bruises from the Commanders. Moments when they show the potential of an elite passing offense. Then there are times when the Commanders make the Chicago Bears look like a playoff team. That’s life in the NFL.

But A Fly On The Ball has seen enough to know that the Commanders are on a unique path that leads to a Super Bowl win in February of 2024. Here’s why we’ll all be celebrating a Commanders Super Bowl win later this season.

Eric Bieniemy and Ron Rivera Are Motivated Failures

They say those who can’t perform end up as coaches. That’s exactly how Bieniemy and Rivera got here. Sure, Rivera won a Super Bowl with the 1985 Bears, riding the coattails of one of the greatest teams in football history, but like Bieniemy, he wasn’t ever considered a cornerstone of his organization.

Failing as players still fuels these coaches to this day. For Bieniemy, it’s led to becoming a Super Bowl champion as a coach, putting the Kansas City Chiefs on his back, dragging Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes to the finish line. Twice.

Rivera has always been held back by Dan Snyder, but those days are gone. As the only coach in NFL history to lead a team with a losing record to the playoffs more than once, if there’s anyone who can do it again, it’s Coach Rivera.

What better time than now? The Commanders are on track for their eighth consecutive losing season, but if there’s anything a Washington football team fan knows, it’s how to be a loser. Aside from a brief stint in Kansas City, this is exactly what Coach Bieniemy and Coach Rivera did best before getting demoted to Washington. Why else would the Commanders be so interested in their services? It’s okay because now they’re channeling all that frustration into the greatness you see today.

Sam Howell Knows How To Heave a Ho

Joe Theismann has nothing on Sam Howell. Just look at the mobility alone, where Theismann likely couldn’t even do a seven-step drop or execute a play-action pass. Howell can do all that and more. He’s the total package. The real article. What you see is what you get.

But unlike several of Washington’s previous QBs, he can also sling the pigskin. It’s a rare treat fans aren’t used to seeing at FedEx Field, yet he’s the best the NFC East has to offer. Hell, Howell’s the best QB in the NFC, right Commanders fans?

It’s been an incredible rise to glory after being kicked to the curb as a fifth-round pick, a player no one ever expected to be anything but a practice squad QB. But he’s showing why the five other teams who selected a QB ahead of Howell made very bad decisions to ignore the moxie of this future superstar.

When you get a player like Howell, who can humbly heave a heaping hot hoagie to a harrowing hound dog, your team’s ceiling is limitless. Everyone affiliated with the Commanders knows it, which is why the excitement surrounding this franchise is at an all-time high. It has nothing to do with ownership. It’s all Howell baby. His arrival comes at the perfect time, with a Super Bowl celebration right around the corner. Don’t say you weren’t warned by A Fly On The Ball.

Harvey Ballbanger loves to shoot the shit. If he were bigger, he’d probably be a baller. Hell, if he hadn’t gotten a wing clipped, he’d be Ballbangin’ for the NFL right now, messing around with triple-doubles in his downtime in the NBA. But that isn’t the case. Instead, Ballbanger’s letting it all hang out, delivering fresh piles, from one throne to another.
