The legend of the Ryan Jeffers summer sausage has catapulted the Minnesota Twins offense in the early part of the 2024 MLB season. In fact, coming out of Spring Training, the Twins offense was pathetic. Then, something clicked thanks to a little help from the Ryan Jeffers summer sausage celebration.
Since then, the undisputed luck of a summer sausage has saved the season for the Minnesota Twins as they rode the wave of an incredible 12 game winning streak. Now, the entire Twins clubhouse tosses a summer sausage to anyone who crosses home plate to score a run.
As legend has it, the Twins were getting shut out by one of the worst teams in baseball, the Chicago White Sox. That’s when Minnesota’s hitting coach, David Popkins, decided to spice things up. Popkins brought a summer sausage to the dugout that supposedly belonged to Ryan Jeffers. In an effort to change their fortune, Jeffers and fellow Twins slugger Edouard Julien proceeded to rub the sausage before swinging their wood at a few balls.
The rest is history. The summer of sausage continues for the Twins because hitting and rubbing meat packages are contagious. They go hand-in-hand!
